Casa Montessori Pre-Primary Program
1st year
Introduction to Montessori: ages 2.5 -3.5 years
Children who turn 2.5 years old by August 20, 2022 are allowed to apply.
Our Pre-Primary program is designed for younger children who have started toilet training at home and are wearing pull ups. The focus of this age group is socialization, separation and early Montessori curriculum.
Their developmental needs at this age are to explore their environment and learn to be independent. The Montessori classroom becomes their world to explore, as they refine their senses, internalize order, learn to sort and classify, and practice concentration – the skills which lay the groundwork for their ability to think and learn. Montessori classrooms encourage the child’s need for independence: they learn the skills and are given the tools to take care of themselves within the environment. They move freely as they follow their own interests and progress at their own pace. They learn to take responsibility for themselves and for their work, which in turn develops good work habits which will enable their future academic success.
Casa Montessori Primary Program
2nd and 3rd year (3.5 – 5 years)
The Primary Program provides an enriching developmental experience in an environment that encourages personal respect and responsible freedom. Our classes also offer socialization and formal learning experiences for the young child. Fine and gross motor coordination activities, singing, stories, learning units and manipulation materials keep the child happy, busy and stimulated. These students should be toilet trained. Occasional accidents are to be expected, but frequent ones should not be the rule.
Second year students, typically three and four year olds, have had their year of independent exploration and concentration, and are now turning their focus outward, becoming more interested in their classmates and the social world of school. They are developmentally driven to practice social interactions and explore group dynamics. They continue to practice their independent work habits, but also begin more teacher-directed activities, and may do much of their work in small groups, rather than independently.
Third year students, typically four to five year old’s. These children have a strong background in all areas of the classroom, and are able to work entirely independently. They are developmentally ready to become leaders and peer teachers, both with academics and with social skills. They continue to define their good work habits, as they accept responsibility for their own learning. These children are self-confident, creative-thinking problem-solvers, who are well-equipped to move on to a new environment for their elementary years.
Afternoon Activities:
Our afternoon program runs from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. everyday. These activities are for the children who are signed up for Afternoon care and are included in the price.
There will be a healthy snack served at 2:00 p.m., time spent in the classroom working on independent projects, Story time, Movement/Dance activities, Art Projects, Outdoor Playtime, and Imaginative Play to end the day.
